Children in CCD

     The Diocese of Charleston requires two years of religious education/ catechesis up to the eighth grade.  For  unique situations, please contact the office.  A copy of baptism certificate should be provided if he/she was not baptized at OLOL.

• Students are expected to attend every class for the two year period (7-8 grades).

• Each child must have a sponsor who is a Catholic in good standing with the Church, who is at least 16 years of age and who is not the child’s parent.

• Six Saint Reports – using the form provided in your CCD cabinets, please distribute these to your candidates so that they may become more familiar with the Saints and their involvement with the Church. In the process, perhaps they will pick a particular Saint to choose for their patron.

• 20 Service Hours – the candidates should participate in a variety of acts of service to aid in parish life. It may be that once the candidate gets used to the service, they may want to commit more me. The contact person in the parish is provided. A form will be available to track hours. Fr. Francisco approved of the following:

  • Usher (English: Michael Brown; Susan Greenfield; Spanish: Ramiro Gonzales)

  • Lector (English: Fr. Francisco; Mike Mallon; Spanish: Rosalie Merrow)

  • Assistance at parish events: (Trinidad Lopez; Letisia Hernandez; Cindy Berry)

• Eighth Grade Only:

  • Quarterly Tests

  • Memorized Prayers

  • Confirmation Rehearsal – May 6 (6:00 pm)

  • Confirmation with the Bishop – May 9 (7:00 pm)

Older Teens

     Children 14 and older must enroll in OCIC for the completion of their Sacramental Formation:

• A copy of baptism certificate should be provided if he/she was not baptized at OLOL.

• Each child must have a sponsor who is a Catholic in good standing with the Church, who is at least 16 years of age and who is not the child’s parent.

• English-speaking teens (15 and older) will enroll in OCIA with Cindy Berry.  Click here for more information.

• Bi-lingual teens or teens (14 -18) whose primary language is Spanish will enroll in OCIC with Mrs. Rosalie Merrow.  Click here for more information.

Adults in OCIA

• A copy of baptism certificate should be provided if he/she was not baptized at OLOL.

• Have completed the required course for inquiry.  It may be possible depending on the circumstances and experience of the individual to shorten the time of preparation.

• Each candidate/ catechumen must have a sponsor who is a Catholic in good standing with the Church, who is at least 16 years of age.

• Spanish-speaking Adults should enroll in OICA with Mrs. Rosa Corona.
